How to verify a Florida electrical contractor license
Certified (EC) vs registered (ER) licenses and how to look one up.
Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) licenses electrical contractors. Checking a license takes a few minutes.
Certified vs registered
A Certified Electrical Contractor (EC) can work anywhere in Florida. A Registered Electrical Contractor (ER) can work only in the local jurisdictions where they’re registered, so confirm the registration covers your city or county.
Steps
- Ask for the license number
- Search it on the DBPR license lookup at myfloridalicense.com
- Check that the status is current and active and the license type fits the work
- Ask for proof of insurance
- Make sure the permit is in the contractor’s name
